Roger Shimoff

Senior Technical Instructor

Roger "Rog" Shimoff joined Commvault’s training department in February 2007, and provides public, onsite, and virtual training to customers and partners throughout the United States and Canada. Roger was first introduced to IT over 40 years ago, while studying to be a Dentist at the University of the Pacific. Deciding that IT and computing might be a better career choice, he changed his major from Biology with a minor in Music, to Mathematics with a minor in Music, eventually completing his studies at San Francisco State University.

Roger landed his first job in 1974 at the University of California Berkeley’s Administrative Data Center as a Mainframe Computer Operator. There, he was introduced to, and responsible for Computer Security, Data Storage Management, Capacity Planning/Performance Tuning, and Business Continuance/Disaster Recovery.

In the mid-1980s, Roger was recruited as a Systems/Sales/Customer Engineer for UCCEL, developer of TMS, ACF2, and ASM2 mainframe management tools. Roger has also held the position of Professional Services Area Manager at: EMC, StorageTek, and — just prior to joining Commvault — at Sun Microsystems.

A 3rd-generation San Franciscan, Roger lives in the Bay Area with his wife Barbara, a Registered Nurse, and their two Boston Terriers, Annie and Bosley. And yes, they do enjoy long walks on the California beaches. Outside of Commvault, Roger keeps very busy boating, woodworking, performing as bassist with his band, and occasionally as a radio DJ.
